Staying true to their established roots in the specialty market, Nuun All Day Hydration was designed to meet the needs of athletes who want to flavor their water for all-day consumption in order to stay hydrated and primed to perform. An estimated 75 percent of people are dehydrated and dehydration in athletes leads to greater risks that can result in muscle fatigue, cramps, headaches, dizziness, nausea, decreased performance level and rapid heart rate. Moreover, studies have shown that people are 90 percent more likely to drink more water if it is flavored. Nuun All Day Hydration was born out of the need for a delicious, healthy and effective way to consume the recommended daily amount of water throughout the day.

I have always been a fan of Nuun. I am from Seattle, and that is where Nuun was founded so that may be part of the story. I have also been a fan of the Active Hydration Tabs as an alternative to sugary sports drinks in my training and racing. Nuun has been around since 2004 and used in a variety of sports and activities. This year they introduce the All Day Drink Tabs to provide a product for hydrating when not exercising. I want to thank Nuun for giving me the opportunity to test them out.
Testing Nuun All Day Hydration is definitely different than many of my other reviews. Instead of active testing, this was more like inactive testing. I tested the drink tabs by using them instead of water at work and at home when I was not exercising. My easiest test yet.
The Nuun All Day Drink Tabs are made to be an alternative to sugary sods and juices. One single tab of Nuun All Day only has 7 calories and is recommended to make 16 oz of drink. Of course, you can use the tab to make however much you want based on your flavor strength preference. Nuun All Day Drink Tabs are little tabs that can be dropped in water to make a vitamin and mineral-rich drink for optimal hydration. The tabs when dropped in water dissolve within a couple of minutes, and you are good to go. Nuun sells their drink tabs in small plastic tubes that contain 15 drink tabs. Nuun recommends dropping the tabs into 16 oz of water for best results. This means that one tube has on average 240 ounces of hydration available. Unlike Nuun Active Hydration, the All Day Tabs are all natural. They use Stevia and Sorbitol for their sweeteners to provide something that would be better suited for All Day use. Nuun All Day has 17 vitamins and minerals; they are: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Pantothenic Acid, Magnesium, Zinc, Selenium, Manganese, Chromium, Sodium, and Potassium. As you can see there is a lot.
The individual tabs have a scored line through the center to make it easier to break them in half if you need to. As far as the plastic tube goes, it is recyclable and also is useful for other things after the Nuun has all been used. Nuun All Day currently is available in four flavors with different fruit flavor profiles so you can find the one or ones that work for you. Nuun prints subtle reminders on their tubes to reuse your bottles to be more sustainable. I really like how they use all natural ingredients.
Ease of Use (35%)
Nuun All Day Drink tabs are very convenient. A tube of Nuun is less than 4 inches tall and 1 ½ inches in diameter. When full it can carry 15 tabs that make approximately 16 ounces each. This makes them really easy to carry in a bag, purse, or keep in a desk drawer. To use a tab all you have to do is fill up your water bottle and drop in however many tabs you want for that bottle. Wait for a couple of minutes and you are good to go. This makes it pretty easy. Even if you want to use only half a tab, there is a scored line in the middle to help you break it in half. The one drawback in this whole process is that the tab is effervescent so it will build up pressure in a sealed water bottle. I generally keep the cap off when it is initially dissolving so I can let out the bubbles. If you do seal it up, you may get a bit of spray from the pressure when you open it for the first time. I know I have, at least it is not a sticky solution.
While Nuun is not carbonated, it will have a bit of that carbonated feel to it at first. If you let it sit for a while this will diminish. I personally am okay with it but my wife only likes Nuun that has lost its fizz. She is not a fan of the effervescence. As far as the taste of the Nuun All Day I realize that this will be very subjective. That is why I did not give a lot of weight in the ratings to the taste. I have been able to try all 4 and tested with three of the flavors. The only one I did not test was the Blueberry Pomegranate. I assume some of these comments will apply to it as well, but I am not sure since I did not test it. I have found that since the sweetener in Nuun All Day is Stevia, there is a bit of a bitter taste to the flavors. They all have a little bite to them. This is something I have noticed with other Stevia sweetened items I have tasted. Being someone who likes sweet things this was a bit of a disappointment to me. The actual flavor of each was good, but they are just a little harsh. I found that it negatively impacted the amount I drank for this reason. Compare that to the Nuun Active Hydration Tabs, which do use a synthetic sweetener and end up having a sweeter and to me, more palatable taste. When I have these in my bottle during the day, I can honestly say that I tend to drink more than I would just water. If anyone who is reading this has an opinion on the tartness of the Nuun All Day Flavors I would love to hear it in the comment’s section below.
I really like how all Nuun products have very little calories. One thing you want to be wary of is drinking your calories and this makes it so you can avoid that. With Nuun All Day all the ingredients are natural, which give some additional peace of mind. I think this makes it good not only for adults but kids as well. The tabs also have an impressive amount of vitamins in them which if you are an endurance athlete like me, then the additional vitamins are welcome.
Overall, there were many things I liked about the Nuun All Day but the bitterness made it not my favorite. Even to the point that I would drink less than I would water, and this was not the point. Of course, these are only my thoughts on the taste; others may love it. As a reference I do like pretty much all the flavors of the Active Hydration Drink Tabs. Apart from the taste, the All Day Hydration Tabs are great. They are portable, easy to use, and packed full of vitamins. I still use them and add a small quirt of a similar flavored MIO to get a little more sweetness. This works well for me, and I can drink this combination all the time. If you are like me and have issues drinking enough water day in and day out, try the Nuun All Day, it may help you reach your hydration goals and feel better throughout the day. Nothing worse than starting a workout already dehydrated. Nuun sells the All Day tubes in four packs for $30 but single tubes are often able to be found in stores so you can try it. As always, your mileage may vary.
