YMMV Review

This is the first guest review on the site. My wife Melissa wrote up this review of the Moving Comfort Split Skort. I hope to be able to do more guest reviews down the road.

Design ★★★★☆

The Moving Comfort Split Skort is a longer cut than many other skorts out there. The top of the skort has a 2 ½ inch knit waistband. This waistband is soft polyester with elastic to give it a good stretch and be soft against the skin. There is a draw cord in the middle of the waistband if needed as well. The outer skirt material is a nylon mix for more durability and lighter weight feel. There are also 3 ½ in slits on the outseam to help keep the skirt from feeling too tight. The internal boy short is also made out of a stretchy polyester mix. It is soft next to the skin and has a bit of a compressive quality to it. The is a crotch gusset that is double thickness and is soft.  The boy short liner also has silver built into the fabric to be antibacterial.

Inside the shorts

At the leg openings on the boy shorts there is gripper gel to help keep the shorts in place. On the outside of the boy shorts there are two small pockets, one on each side. They are a good size for gels or chapstick. The whole skort is made with flatlock seams to avoid chafing. According to Moving Comfort the skort is semi-fitted and mid-rise.

Fit ★★★★☆

The thickness of the waistband is really nice. It does not dig in like thinner bands do. Rather it kind of flows on top, it does not feel like you have an elastic waistband on rather it is snug but comfortable. There is an internal drawcord if you need to cinch it up further. I have not had any problems with the waist rising up or sagging. It stays where it should. The skirt fit is flattering. I would best describe it as a A line skirt fit. It hangs down nice and smooth. I like the length of the inseam. For those of us who like a more modest length, these are great.

The internal shorts are tight but not too tight. They have a compressive quality to them but are not as tight as cycling shorts. The inseam is also a longer length for a more modest look. The best part of the boy shorts is the grippers at the bottom. They keep the shorts from riding up when running. Nothing worse than having to constantly readjust during a run. I prefer to wear underwear with all my running shorts and do so with these. I do not think you need to as the internal liner is really soft. This is just my personal preference. The pockets on the inside are small but can hold stuff well. The skort even still looks flattering even with the pockets full. This is the first skort I have liked.

Performance ★★★★☆

The Moving Comfort Split Skort has been really comfortable on my runs this summer. It is lightweight and does not get in the way while running. I have not noticed any issues with chafing even on longer runs. The material has not shown any signs of wear yet. The materials also have done a good job wicking away sweat. Some of my runs this summer have been during the heat of the day and I have not noticed any build up of sweat. The only issue I have had is that the skirt portion of the short blows up in between my legs if I am running into the wind. This is a pretty small issue though.

Boy short leg grippers

Overall ★★★★☆

The Moving Comfort Split Skort is a modest but super comfortable skort. I have tried on several before this one and they have been unflattering or just too short. This is the first one that I felt looked good and was longer. Better yet it has been comfortable and performed well so far.  I have been really impressed with this skort so far and would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable short or skort. You can tell that Moving Comfort is a women’s company because they have nailed the fit. I measured myself before buying these and their fitting chart was right on. As always, your mileage may vary.

Pros

  • Great waistband
  • Leg grippers
  • Flattering fit

Cons

  • Windy days
